Under the HAT: “Stories from School Life”

Under the HAT: “Stories from School Life”

There’s something fascinating about how different materials completely change the art of hat making. Straw hats, for example, have a rich history—many are crafted using specialized paper from Japan, known for its strength and durability. This gives straw hats a surprisingly sturdy structure while still keeping them lightweight and breathable.

Felt, on the other hand, is an entirely different breed. It offers a level of versatility that straw simply can’t match. With felt, you can steam, reshape, fix, and mold the material into just about any design you imagine. It opens the door to creativity in a whole new way, allowing each piece to become truly unique.

As I continue learning and experimenting with these techniques, I’m excited to share more of the process. Soon, I’ll be posting videos to show what I’ve learned and how everything is coming along.

If you have any questions or are curious about hat making, feel free to reach out—I’d love to connect and make your personal hat together!
